Berserk, illustrated and written by Kentaro Miura, is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series. The story centers on characters from the Guts’ World of DarkFantasy, a single mercenary and Griffith, leader of mercenaries known as the Band of Hawks, who are placed in Medieval Europedivine.

The narrative revolves around themes of comradeship, isolation and the question whether humanity is actually good or evil as it probes some of human nature’s most beautiful and darkest sides. Both anime and manga are renowned for their use of graphic violence and sexual material.

When Guts quits the Hawks to pursue his own vision, Griffith’s dreams of ruling his own kingdom are dashed. The Hawks play a crucial role in ending the 100-year war that has ravaged the state of Midland and are originally hailed as heroes.

Unable to cope with the loss, Griffith imprisons Charlotte, the King’s daughter, for a year and seduces her. As soon as Guts discovers that he is being saved by the Hawks’ forbidden remnants, Griffith left and is now a dumb, horribly disfigured shadow of the man he once was.

When he realizes that his body is too broken to carry the weight, he accidentally activates the behelit on his man, and the weight of his wishes is too great for Griffith to handle. The Hawks are then transported to a different aircraft where they come into contact with the four God Hand archdemons during the Eclipse service.

Griffith sacrifices his warriors to the apostles—people like Zodd who sacrificed humanity and their loved ones for the God Hand’s power—at the eldritch entities’ urging, and as a result, he ends up becoming the last surviving member of the God Hand.

Guts watches the brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers despite the fact that the mysterious Skull Knight named saves him and his lover Casca from certain death.

Intestines loses an eye and an arm, while Casca is rendered insane after being raped by the Femto-now-reborn Griffith.
